By sponsoring a sanctuary animal, you are ensuring that animal will continue to receive excellent care while freeing up funds to allow us to take in more animals in need and expand our wildlife program.

Once you decide on an animal to sponsor, you can either send a cheque to Constance Creek Wildlife Refuge with a note stating which animal you wish to sponsor or you can click the DonateNow button at the top of this web page and specify sponsoring an animal as part of the process.

Thank you to our current animal sponsors! Ana Clara, Simon, Max, Connie & Isaac, Tina & Jeremy, Lisa & Family, Anita & Glen, Laura, Greg & Irene, Elena, Shannon & Alicia.

Ponies

Several ponies have been given sanctuary at CCWR; we provide these ponies with love, veterinary care, hoof care, good food and shelter for the rest of their lives. Ponies are social animals, so once they come into our care, we want them to feel safe and secure in their new forever home. Therefore, we do not adopt out any ponies.

The minimal cost of caring for a pony is about $1200 a year. Barn and fence maintenance, blankets, water troughs with heaters are additional expenses.

A donation of $200 will list you as a sponsor for one of our ponies. It takes about 6 sponsors a year to cover the costs of caring for a single pony. To find out more about our sanctuary ponies, click here.

Pigs

Our sanctuary is home to 3 potbellied pigs. These are really friendly, clean and smart animals that need room to explore and find stimulation.

The minimal cost of caring for a potbellied pig is about $300 a year. Pigs will eat almost everything, but need a basic nutritionally balanced diet to maintain good health. As long as their weight is controlled, they tend to stay very healthy. They enjoy roaming around the farm, but need a sheltered place to cozy up in a nest during winter.

A donation of $50 will list you as a sponsor for one of our pigs. It takes about 6 sponsors a year to cover all the costs in caring for a single pig. To find out more about our sanctuary pigs, click here.

Goats

Of the many goats on the farm, most were brought here as pets before we became a sanctuary. Goats are truly delightful creatures as long as you try to understand them. They are very social, extremely curious and intelligent. They will take a keen interest in anything we do around the farm and will compete with each other for some human attention.

The minimal cost of caring for a healthy goat is about $300 a year. Goats mainly eat hay, but enjoy some variety with grain, apples, carrots and branches added to their diet. Given the choice, goats prefer to eat leaves and bark off trees instead of grazing on grass. They enjoy devouring discarded Christmas trees as a special winter treat!

Goats need regular hoof trimming, deworming and vaccinations to ensure good health. A donation of $75 will list you as a sponsor for one of our goats. It takes about 4 sponsors a year to cover the costs of caring for a single goat. To find out more about our sanctuary goats, click here.

Rabbits

Our sanctuary is home to 10 rescued rabbits. We provide our rabbits with a large outdoor pen and hutch, but move them inside once winter gets serious.

The minimal cost of caring for a rabbit is about $100 a year. Rabbits are prone to wounds and abscesses, requiring expensive veterinary care. They are most likely live a much longer and healthier life if they are spayed or neutered. Most rabbits are happiest when given the chance to bond with another.

A donation of $20 will list you as a sponsor for one of our rabbits. It takes at least 5 sponsors a year to cover the costs of care for a single rabbit. To find out more about our sanctuary rabbits, click here.

Cats

Our sanctuary is home to 3 rescued cats. There are many cats around the Ottawa region in need of permanent loving homes. Thankfully there are several organizations that take in and adopt out cats. Please make sure to spay or neuter your cat to make sure you don't add to the problem.

It takes about $400 a year to care for a healthy cat. Cats need regular vaccinations, claw trimming, dental care, flea prevention and deworming. All of our cats are spayed or neutered and receive proper veterinary care.

A donation of $25 will list you as a sponsor for one of our cats. To find out more about our sanctuary cats, click here.
